PS3 - 4 million units shipped but only 1.88 million sold?

Last weekend Sony announced that they had shipped over 4 million PS3 consoles worldwide.The problem is that they have only managed to sell through around 1.88 million. Even taking into account the massive European launch this still leaves around half of all units unsold. Is Sony in trouble?
Time will tell.
